Crafty Tuesday

Putting the Crafty in the Crafty Reader”

I recently realized that for someone named “The Crafty Reader” I don’t often share anything craft related on here (I do on my IG sometimes). So, Tuesdays are now dedicated as Crafty Tuesday where I’ll share some of my bookish and non-bookish crafts!

Since I don’t mention it a lot here, I have an Esty shop where I sell decals and stickers (moving more toward stickers). I have a variety of themed items, including some book ones, that I love making and sharing with the world. If you live in the Baltimore/HarCo areas, you may have found some of my stickers in Little Free Libraries in the area! I’m working on designing some more book themed stickers, but for now I have about 13 (most are SJM related or generic).

Being my first post of this type, I’m going to turn it into a Double Crafty Feature, starring not one, but TWO of my sticker designs! Keep scrolling for a peek!

Double Crafty Feature

First up we have my newest JLA inspired sticker, based off of her From Blood & Ash Series!

This sticker is perfect for FBAA lovers and will stick nicely to laptops, water bottles, and (if you dare) books! You can find this sticker by clicking HERE

Our second sticker is inspired by the ever so popular Sarah J Mass’s A Court of Thorns and Roses. I’m very proud of this sticker but it took me FOREVER to make.

If this is one of your favorite series, as it is mine, this is the perfect sticker for you! I’m hoping to make more like this with other series, but I have to be able to focus for a long enough time to get it done…we shall see! You can find this sticker by clicking here!

I’m excited (and nervous) to share my creations with all of you! So long, farewell until next Tuesday!

Rating My JLA Book Boyfriends

Hi, my name is Allison, I’m 27 and have a million book boyfriends…

To start, I haven’t read all of Jennifer L Armentrout’s series; I’ve read six. However, I have fallen in love with the male characters in all of them so far and need to just rate them. I don’t have a least favorite, but I’m going to rate them from my favorite to the one I would literally die for (which is most of them so…). It’s a messed up scale, but it’s the best I can do.

#6 Ren from the Wicked Series

I didn’t fall in love with Ren right away when I read the Wicked Series. I wasn’t sure how I felt about him, but then he pulled out the “Sweetness” pet name and I died a little. I liked the chemistry between Ivy and Ren and was really pulled into their banter and relationship. I also appreciated that this was an adult series and I got to see that side of them. I watched the movie version of the first book and am struggling to picture Ren as anyone but a young John Travolta (not a bad thing, but not how I envisioned him).

#5: Casteel from the From Blood & Ash Series

Casteel was my first JLA boyfriend. I love him so much, even after I got past everything that happened in book 1. I fell in love with JLA’s writing because of this series, and Cas would be number one on my list, but I met all the other lovely men JLA has created. Cas is cunning, sexy, and just all around scrumptious. I love his fierce love for me…I mean Poppy, and how he would do anything for her. I can picture Cas the most clearly in my head (thanks to some bussin’ fan art) and I highly recommend this adult series. Kieran is also a runner up solely because he has the best and most sarcastic personality. I really need Cas and Kieran in my life…I’d love to be a trio with them.

#4 Roth from the Dark Elements Series

I love me a good demon lover. Roth is such a badass and really makes my heart swoon for a demon. I would happily sell my soul and maybe a family member or two to be Roth’s lady. However, as for pet names, Roth calls Layla “shortie” and I really HATE that. It’s not endearing and bumped him down a few pegs because of it. I found myself throwing myself back into high school because of Roth and, looking back on my own HS experience, I wish I had a Roth to entertain me.

#3 Daemon Black from the Lux Series

I’m currently on book 5 of this series and have loved Daemon from the first time we met him in all his shirtless glory. I don’t usually go for aliens, but I’m ready for an extra terrestrial take-over right about now. I also don’t usually love the pet name “Kitten”, but I get some vicious butterflies whenever he calls Kat that. Daemon does have some controlling characteristics that I’m not fond of, but since he is a book character, I can look past that. I SOOOOO wish JLA would do an adult spinoff of this series with Daemon and Katy grown up some…I would literally buy every copy. Daemon would be such a great character in an adult book. Buy, I am quite content using my imagination!

#2 and #1: Seth from the Covenant/The Titan Series

Seth the Apollyon God of deliciousness has my heart. We met him in the Covenant series and as soon as Alex formed an opinion on him, I was hooked. He was the typical bad boy that my soul lurches toward in books/movies/tv shows. I would literally die for Seth. He has this rough exterior, but his heart is so big. He made some big mistakes through these two series, but he made up for them (in my opinion). I also was SO thankful that JLA wrote a spinoff series about Seth that was ADULT! Talk about fueling the fire in my “soul”.

Now all I want is for my other book boyfriends that were part of YA stories to have their own adult spinoffs. One can dream right?

Are you shocked that Zayne and Aiden aren’t on this list? They aren’t my cup of tea. Aiden made me so angry because he was such a rule follower, and I go for the bad boys (as you can see from this list). Roth just over powered Zayne and I was 100% in love with Roth, so I never gave Aiden a chance. I have heard that Zayne goes from BFF to Daddy in his follow-up series, so I may add him to the list then…who knows!

How do you rate JLA book boyfriends? I’d love to know! Are there any that I haven’t met yet that you think I should read about ASAP?

R.I.P It or Ship It Book Tag

I found this book tag on Dreamland Book Blog and just had to try it!

The Rules

  1. Write down a list of book characters. I wrote down 14.
  2. Put into a container of your choice: I chose a cup…it’s what I had closest to me!
  3. Pick two names at a time.
  4. Decide if you ship the relationship or if you want the relationship to cease existence! Easy enough!

Round One: Ship it!

Couple number 1 is: Castiel from From Blood and Ash and Morana from The Darkverse Series. Honestly…I think I ship this one! Both are badass and would challenge each other in the best ways possible. Morana kind of reminds me of a mob version of Poppy anyway, so I think it would work (at least for a bit anyway!)

Round Two: RIP it!

Couple number two is: Poppy from From Blood and Ash and Aren from The Bridge Kingdom. I can’t see Poppy with anyone but Castiel…I loved Aren, but I don’t know if it would work with them. Aren’s land is kind of secluded and Poppy has been secluded her whole life. I don’t see it being a thing…thank you, NEXT.

Round Three: Ship It!

Couple number three is: Bryce from Crescent City and Dex Foray from the Experiment in Terror Series. What personalities these two have! They would give each other a run for their money and the spice in the sheets would be *chef’s kiss*. Both like to have fun and do risky things, so they’re perfect!

Round Four: RIP It!

Couple number four is: Katniss from the Hunger Games and Perry from the Experiment in Terror Series. I don’t know how I feel about Katniss and Perry being together. I love Perry to death, and Katniss is great, but I don’t think they’d make a rockin’ couple. I don’t even know if they would be friends. I think Katniss would annoy Perry and it would get old real fast. Perry is also a lot like me and I don’t think I would enjoy being in a relationship with Katniss so…I’m gonna have to go with NO on this one.

Round Five: RIP It!

Couple number five is: River from Fables and Other Lies and Wrath from Kingdom of the Wicked. River has his own charm, but Wrath is the embodiment of sin (literally…look at his name). There would be a huge power struggle in this relationship, but I think Wrath would end up killing River in the end..so it probably wouldn’t work out. I wouldn’t mind watching them try though…I’ll make the popcorn!

Round Six: I Ship It…but it’s complicated

Couple number six is: Aelin from the Throne of Glass Series and Ryder from the Fae Chronicles. Holy crap. I would LOVE to see this happen. However, Ryder is super dominant and would try to get Aelin to submit and she would take absolutely none of his shit! She’d probably try to get him to submit, which isn’t in his vocabulary, so it would probably a hot mess (emphasis on hot). I think it would be a constant back and forth for power and Aelin would somehow end up on top, as she always does. Ryder would turn into a beast and it would get messy…but it would probably be worth it. Maybe…

Round Seven: Ship It…;)

Couple Number Seven is: Ristan the Demon from the Fae Chronicles and Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses. OH.MY.GOD. What a pairing! These two have such snarky personalities…I would LOVE to see them attempt a relationship. I can’t imagine how funny it would be to be friends with the both of them together. I need it to happen. High Lord of the Night Court and his Demon…we love to see it. Yes, please. The trouble they would get into together…I see lots of sexy adventures that they include all their friends in for…YAS.

That was more fun than I anticipated. I would love to do this with different characters too! I’m glad I stumbled across this tag!

Book Reviews

From Blood and Ash Book Review

“Fear and bravery are often one and the same. It either makes you a warrior or a coward. The only difference is the person it resides inside.”

Jennifer Armentrout
4/5 Daggers (stars)

Synopsis

Poppy has grown up belonging to everyone but herself. She was raised as the Maiden, which translates to having absolutely no freedom. She can’t speak to anyone, can’t be looked upon, can’t engage in activities, can’t do anything. Poppy is covered by a veil and sits quietly while she does as she’s told. As Poppy waits for her Ascension, she would much rather be defending people and daggering the Craven – a terrifying type of monster that destroys and kills…including having killed Poppy’s parents long ago. Then, one day, she gets a new guard and everything becomes beautifully confusing. Poppy wants less to do with her Ascension and more to do with living the life that was stolen from her. As Poppy struggles with following her heart, an old and fallen kingdom is beginning to rise and rebel. Lives are in danger, including Poppy’s. She can either fight or she can remain the perfect, pure maiden…what will she choose?

My Thoughts

This was the first Jennifer Armentrout book that I picked up. I ended up using this book as my ‘reading before bed’ book, so it took me longer to read than normal. I first saw this book on TikTok when someone said that it was more steamy than ACOMAF. I was intrigued but didn’t want to add another book to my collection just yet. Then, someone I follow on twitter was raving about this book so I decided to download the kindle version. Since I hadn’t read this author before, I didn’t have any idea what to expect. The first chunk of the book dragged for me. I enjoyed what I was reading, but it felt slow for me. Although…I then simultaneously decided to read the book Forever With You, by JLA as well! I loved that book so I continued trucking through this one, and I’m glad I did!

Let’s start with Poppy…I LOVE her!!!!!! What a strong character. This poor girl is put through HELL, but she entertains herself and breaks some rules, too! I love a good badass, and Poppy is definitely that! Reading about how she was forced to live her life was so unsettling and upsetting, especially her lessons with the Lord and Duke. I don’t know how she didn’t lose her mind with all the rules she had to follow…I wouldn’t have lasted 18 years. Then, there’s Viktor whom I also love. He helped Poppy see a little bit of life by training her to use a dagger and defend herself. He saw behind her veil and knew Poppy as a daughter. I also enjoyed Tawny’s character and how she was so much more than Poppy’s handmaid. They cared for each other and Tawny saw Poppy as a person and a friend, not just the Maiden.

Then, there’s Hawke. We meet Hawke early on in the book, then he disappears, and then he returns. I loved him the moment I met him. Then I fell even more in love with him…then I hated his guts…then I loved him…then I hated him…it’s a love/hate roller coaster. I picture him distinctly in my mind but I can’t put into writing how I imagine him. The way he and Poppy talk to one another is my favorite and I love them so much (I’m saying that a lot). But then, JLA throws a wrench in things and my heart is very, very confused. However, I finished this book and NEEDED the second book ASAP. Luckily, I chose a great time to finish this book because the new one came out today (Sept. 1).

Now, I’m going to move onto the writing. I like JLA’s writing style. But, like I said before, this book took a while for me to get into. I don’t think it was the writing that bored me, but the plot and learning the back story and piecing together what was holding me back. However, I soon wrapped my mind around the story and ended up loving it in the end. Once it got going, it sure took off! Some of the semantics of the setting and Lords/Ladies/Duke/Duchesses were confusing and I didn’t love them. Although, I do see how they add to Poppy’s backstory and the plot of the book. As for Fantasy, this book has some great creatures (the craven, Atlantians, Vampyrs, Wolven, and giant rat monster things). Honestly, I would have loved to see more of the Craven and the blood forest. We see more of the wolven in the last chunk of the book, but I liked them and am excited to (hopefully) see more in book 2.

Holy plot twist. I 100% did not see that coming until it was right under my nose. Maybe I was blinded by love, but that was an SJM twist if I ever did see one! Again, playing with my emotions in books is something I rank highly…it means I’m invested.

I do have to say that this book may house my favorite ever sex scene that I’ve read. This book didn’t have a lot of sex in it, maybe three scenes tops (toward the end of the book too), but there was a lot of sexual tension! I’ve read quite a few smut books in my days, including books that aren’t romance but have sex in them, but this one just did something to me (TMI maybe?). ACOMAF for example, has a handful of sex in it. Love the book, love the romance, chapter 55 amiright? But this books second big sex scene, in the closing chapters of the book, was just something utterly raw and carnal and beautiful. So, congrats on JLA for writing a filthy, wonderful sex scene into this book and making me love those few pages more than anything ever. The atmosphere and events surrounding the scene had a lot to do with the portrayal of emotions, too. It didn’t just happen and it wasn’t an “omg I love you, so show me” scene. It was unexpected and powerful…for me anyway. It will definitely stick in my mind until I read something equivalent or better (as if).

Overall, I am so happy I stuck it out with this book. I cannot wait to read the new one (it should be here in physical form by Friday…ugh) and see where the story goes. I also bought a handful of JLA’s books based on how much I liked the two I’ve read this month. Hopefully they’re just as good! Hawke has been added to my book boyfriend list and may be second under High Lord Rhysand. Just saying.

I’d love to know your thoughts on this book. Leave me some comments if you’ve read this! I love a good discussion!
